A couple of years ago an article by Marty McGuirk was published in Model Railroader Magazine about the neat-o product we call NEOLUBE...

As one might imagine, that article caused quite a stir amongst the Model Railroad fraternity, flooding us with orders, calls and emails. ( This also happened to us a couple of years ago when the publisher of TRAIN Magazine in Japan took a jar home, tried it, loved it, and wrote a similar article about it! )

Marty's description, and how to use it are accurate. ( Nice photo too, I might add..)

Neolube is NOT A PAINT. ( Although you apply it in the same manner as you would apply paint using a small brush. ) Nor does it "Chemically Blacken" anything. (Therefore it doesn't HARM anything either! ) It can be painted directly onto MOST surfaces, including Plastics with no adverse effects. ( Test it in an inconspicuous place first, just to be sure.) When dry it is amazingly "Steel-Like" in appearance, yet it is harmless to the touch.

Since it is neither a paint nor a chemical blackener, it CAN be rubbed off with effort. But it can also be "touched up" as often as required, simply by painting more Neolube over it, with no ill effects. It always looks the same!

The only caution we offer is Just don't spill it! ( Which is why we package it in a very wide, short jar. ) It's hard as heck to get off of things, although scrubbing with soap and water will work in time.

Use it for anything that moves. It's a dry lubricant.

  • Paint all of the moving parts on your shays and other geared locos with it! They'll run better, and they'll look better!
  • Paint it on the "rods" and "valve gear" of your "Rod Engines". They'll look like freshly polished steel, and their "joints" will be lubricated at the same time!
  • Use it to make that ugly black smokebox look exactly like it just had a fresh coat of graphite and oil!
  • Paint the Wheelsets on your Rolling Stock with it! But remember that it's Electrically Conductive, ( Mildly ) so DON'T PAINT IT ACROSS THE INSULATION ON YOUR WHEELSETS! ( For an example of how it will look when done click here . )
  • Paint the Shanks and Centering Springs of your Coupler Boxes with it! They'll work much freer! Paint the knuckles while you're at it! They'll slide together, almost effortlessly!
  • You can Polish it with a soft cloth too, for an even more "steel-like" appearance!
